Validate or decode a KSUID

About this tool

KSUID helps developers, data engineers, and QA teams generate K-Sortable Unique IDs, validate existing KSUID strings, decode embedded UTC timestamps, and copy newline-separated batches for fixtures, logs, queue messages, and database records.

Use cases

  • Generate sortable unique IDs for event records, mock API payloads, integration tests, and database seed data.
  • Decode a pasted KSUID to confirm the embedded UTC creation timestamp before debugging ordering or ingestion issues.
  • Validate a copied KSUID from logs, tickets, or documentation before adding it to a reproduction, runbook, or fixture file.
  • Copy a batch of KSUID values into SQL examples, JSON payloads, or queue messages.
  • Compare KSUID behavior with UUID v4 or UUID v7 when documenting identifier choices for distributed systems.

FAQ

What is KSUID best used for?

KSUID is best used when you need globally unique identifiers that are compact, URL-safe, and roughly sortable by creation time.

What input and output should I expect?

Generate mode needs only a batch count. Decode mode accepts a 27-character base62 KSUID and returns validity, UTC timestamp, Unix seconds, payload hex, and raw bytes.

Does a KSUID reveal timing information?

Yes. A KSUID embeds seconds since the KSUID epoch, so avoid it when creation timing must remain hidden.

Are KSUIDs secrets?

No. Treat KSUIDs as identifiers, not credentials or authorization tokens.
